CHS hosts Research Colloquium 2025

As part of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology’s (处女视频-IIT) Research Week celebration, the College of Health Sciences (CHS) held its Research Colloquium 2025 on April 23, 2025, at the CHS Hall, SET Building, 处女视频-IIT.

With the theme “Advancing Health through Innovation: A Showcase of Excellence in Research,” the one-day event featured a total of eight research presentations that highlighted significant advancements and innovative ideas in the health sciences:

  1. Associated Factors and Mental Health of Teenage Pregnancy among High School Students, presented by Assistant Professor Froi Jan S. Macapil, MN, RN.
  2. The Effects of Instrumental Philippine Folk Music Therapy on the Biophysical Measurements and Anxiety Levels of Hemodialysis Patients in Iligan City, presented by Lou Viviene D. Basan, Riva Cristina L. Snaco, and Marchell Rose L. Solana.
  3. Level of Self-Perceived General Health Literacy of Primary Caregivers Enrolled in the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, presented by Wendy T. Talaroc and Alynna May L. Zamora.
  4. The Efficacy of a Mobile Application on Improving Self-Care Management Among Selected Diabetic Clients in Iligan City, presented by Assistant Professor Val Clinton S. Maybituin, MN, RN.
  5. Chartlink: Digitizing Care through a Patient E-Record System for School Infirmaries, presented by Lucy J. Amora and Misty L. Cloma.
  6. Enhancing Nurse Well-Being and Patient Outcomes: Exploring the Relationship between Job Satisfaction, Burnout, and the Quality of Nursing Care in Hospital Settings, presented by Assistant Professor Betsy D. Sabdani.
  7. A Comparative Analysis of the Impact of Three Educational Interventions on Knowledge, Attitudes, Practices, and Practical Skills in Breast Self-Examination among Maranao Female Senior High School Students, presented by Sittie Aliah L. Ali, Adrajie R. Dida-agun, and Aisha P. Mohammad Daud.
  8. ECOGUARDISTEP: A Health Innovation Design for Older Adult Footwear Utilizing Activated Charcoal and Coconut Husks, presented by Aira D. Engcong, Christine R. Silvosa, and Sarah Grace G. Urfano.

In the afternoon session, the event also featured the launching of the Nurturing Resiliency Toolkit by Dr. Neil M. Martin, PhD, MAN, RN, CHS International Affairs Coordinator.

The self-administered learning innovation consists of four modules focused on building resilience by:

  • Identifying and differentiating types of coping mechanisms,
  • Reflecting on personal spirituality,
  • Recognizing the importance of family relationships, and
  • Acknowledging the value of building and maintaining strong social connections.

The program began with a rationale delivered by CHS Associate Professor Gloria Shiela E. Coyoca, followed by the opening remarks from CHS Dean, Professor Abdullah Junior S. Mangarun, DScN, MAN, RN.

Assistant Professor Karen R. Veloso served as the session moderator, while Assistant Professor Lea Andeau Liwagon acted as the Master of Ceremonies.

The Research Colloquium 2025 served not only as a platform for presenting cutting-edge research but also as a celebration of CHS’s commitment to innovation, academic excellence, and the advancement of health care for the future.
